Fruitful Art Residency

We’re back from our month-long inspirational journey in Toronto, Canada!!

In an attempt to summon new ideas for our studio, we took our minds off the familiar environment, setup a mini studio in our new temporary residence, and tried making art with an unfamiliar medium – acrylic painting on canvas.  We used reference photos from the inspiring Photo Ark project and just painted away using techniques we had learnt from oil painting.  It has been nearly 2 years since we completed our last oil painting, but to our amazement, little time was needed to pick up painting again and we were able to create acrylic paintings with surprisingly satisfying results!

It was a bit of an epiphany looking at the 5 acrylic paintings we were able to create in the short month-long experimental self-directed art residency program.  After coming back to Hong Kong, we’re now thinking about setting up a painting corner in our home studio to further nurture our new found skill.
